The Rovers had to work hard for a 24-12 win over a much-improved UC Grizzlies who are really making a few of the more talented teams earn their victories.
Tries to Boorowa went to Brady Halls and Jayden Cutting with two each and Nick Stephens with one. Andrew Burns landed two conversions.
The news wasn't so good for the Roverettes who went down by 18-8 in a spirited performance. Tries by Boorowa were scored by Danielle Gilbert and Mackella Pye. The ladies are still in finals contention but will need to score a win or two very soon.
In other George Tooke Shield matches, Binalong 22 beat Boomanulla 4 which sees the Brahmans move into the top five. Meanwhile Crookwell have moved out of the top five following a 24-28 loss to Bungendore. Harden 50 beat Gunning 0 whilst North Canberra had the bye.
This week sees the Rovers road to the finals get a little tougher as they face the Bungendore Tigers at the Boorowa Showground on Saturday commencing at 2pm.
The lads have been clinical and conservative in getting the job done in recent weeks but will need to move into another gear against the pace setting Tigers.
They will be proceeded by the Roverettes who play the Tigerettes at 12.45 in another crucial encounter.
A loss isn't fatal for the Roverettes, but it isn't ideal either with just five rounds remaining.
In other George Tooke Shield matches, Gunning play UC Grizzlies, Crookwell play a must win home game against Boomanulla and North Canberra will host Harden in a match which is crucial in determining second and third on the ladder and of great interest to the fourth placed Rovers. Binalong get a well-earned bye.
With the weather forecast expected to be sunny and just a little warmer than in recent days, why not head up to where the action will be hot on Saturday afternoon and support your Boorowa league teams. See you at the footy.
