An advertisement has been running of late starting with a scene showing a 'For Sale' sign at the farm gate.

The ad goes on to say it wasn't diseased crops that turned the farm under, it wasn't a bushfire, a storm or a flood, it was a quad bike accident that brought the farm down.
It has been well documented that too many deaths and serious injuries have been the result of quad bike accidents.
The advertisement concludes with the message that quad bikes cost lives, install a roll bar and that subsidies are available.
Now my wife Jo is no fool and she maintains that quad bikes should not be available without a roll bar fitted.
It's a pity that people who should know better don't give this very consideration to quad bike safety - put a roll bar on as standard.

Now here is a question that poses complex answers: "How do we make our roads safer?"
The news of late has shown hoons using suburban streets to do burn outs and race cars.
I've also read how traffic offenders and drunk drivers are getting off with light sentences and serious offenders are getting sentences reduced.
Coming home from Young last Friday we followed a medium sized sedan all the way from Young to Boorowa.

I hung well back from this vehicle as it spent at least half the journey with driver's side wheels over the centre line, both broken and double lines.
I wasn't game to even considering passing this vehicle and I think the vehicle behind me was in a similar mind.
An SUV passed both of us and on passing the rogue vehicle nearly got pushed off the road.
How does the ad go? "Not drunk, not speeding." I don't know what was wrong with the driver of the rogue vehicle ... maybe drunk, drugged or on a phone, but one thing was very apparent, they shouldn't have been on the road.
Several years ago I mentioned the mad driver of a little blue car on Lachlan Valley Way - we've all seen them - idiots.
The police are out there but the judiciary seems incapable of solving the problem satisfactorily.
If we're at all serious about getting the idiots of the road, the judiciary should throw the book at them.
Get serious with the fines. Pain in the pocket is far preferable to death and horrendous injuries.

A senior citizen was driving down the motorway when his cat phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, "Vernon, I just heard the news that there's a car going the wrong way on M25. Please be careful!"
"Hell," said Vernon, "it's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!"
