This structure will hold several espaliered fruit trees. The vision is that the espaliered trees will provide a decorative green screen with a show of colour in Spring followed by beautiful fruit.
Orchardist, Robert Fitzpatrick, will be our guest speaker for our next workshop to be held on Sunday, August 4.
Robert will share his extensive knowledge of espaliering and planting bare rooted fruit trees. More information will be provided closer to the event.
At our recent AGM Steve Moss was congratulated on steering us through our first season at the Gardens. Steve decided not to seek re-election as Chair although he will continue to be part of our growing garden group and remain on the committee.
The newly elected executive is; Chair and Treasurer, Ros Gibson; Vice Chair, Steve Pescud; and Secretary, David Evans.
The Garden is a shared space for socialising, exploring new ideas, learning new skills, sharing knowledge, and most importantly sharing the beautiful organically grown produce.
We aim to bring creativity and art into the garden, explore water wise techniques, reuse and compost as much as we can, and seek opportunities to repurpose materials where possible.
Come and check us out, we would love to show you around. To find us go down Ballyryan Road to the end of the Showground.
We meet on Saturday afternoons from 12.30pm and have a Tuesday morning ladies group that meets from 9.30am.
Making more raised garden beds will be our next priority. If anyone has suitable building materials they would like to donate or any old garden implements for turning into garden sculptures we would love to hear from you.
We are also looking to make a herb spiral garden with gabion style walls that hold rocks, we have plenty of rocks but are looking for some suitable wire mesh.
