Boorowa looked good right across the park scoring some great team tries whilst showing some gritty defence despite having the game in the bag early in the second half.
Boomanulla were reasonably competitive in the first half despite the Rovers posting two tries in just the first six minutes. Trent Crawford was the first to cross after some good work and he was followed by another one of the rising stars in Mark Veness. Boomanulla recovered somewhat but couldn't hold the sustained Rovers attack for long with Jack Hinds racing in for the third try.
Another one of the young guns, Brady Halls was the next to benefit from some great lead up work as he scored just before halftime. Andrew Burns converted to make the halftime score 18-0. Boomanulla weren't without their chances to score but some committed and desperate defence held them up over the line.
It didn't take long after half time for the Rovers to continue the try scoring feast with co-coach Alex Stewart barging over for his first try of the season which was converted by Andrew Burns for a 24-0 lead. Just six minutes later, his coaching partner Burns decided anything he can do, I can do better, storming over for a try and removing his name from the annual end of season, nudie run list.
Boomanulla finally breached the Boorowa defensive line after 13 minutes of the second stanza but at 28-4 it was always going to be a long way back for the visitors. Boorowa began to play some razzle-dazzle football and as a result Blake Anderson crossed for a try after some slick backline passing.
With the Boomanulla defence all but spent, the Rovers' flamboyant full-back Austin Power ran the tired Raiders defence ragged, crossing for two tries in the space of four minutes to bring up the forty points for the Rovers.
The match marked the 100th appearance in a Rovers jersey by Murray Armour who as always played his heart out. Murray has been an integral part of the Rovers club both as a player and committee member for several seasons, always doing the hard yards both on and off the park. It was fitting for Muzz that the side won on Saturday and hopefully bigger rewards can come in future games.
The three points went to the man of the hour Murray Armour who played an inspired role in his milestone match. Austin Power picked up two points as he sliced and diced the Boomanulla defence all day. Jack Hinds got one point for another consistent all-round performance. Player's player went to Murray Armour.
In other matches last weekend Binalong caused a boil over beating Crookwell 22-16. Bungendore continued the pain for Gunning with a 56-0 romp whilst North Canberra crushed UC Grizzlies by 46-10. Harden had the bye.
In other matches this weekend Gunning host the giant killers Binalong, North Canberra host Boomanulla and in another huge clash, Harden are at home against the in-form Bungendore Tigers. UC Grizzlies have the bye.
Meanwhile the Roverettes had another bye last weekend and should be well rested from the breaks over the last month. They have a few players who should return from injuries shortly and will rate themselves a good chance of beating the Crookwell She-Devils.
The under 16's continue to punch well above their weight giving Belconnen an almighty scare last Thursday night going down 22-18. The local stars included the try scoring machine Byron Campbell who was the beneficiary of some crisp long passes from Jacob Piper who continues to impress in the halves.
This weekend will be one of the biggest weekends at the Boorowa Showground in 2019. Boorowa hosts Crookwell in three grades and all matches should be good ones. The under 19s commence at 11.20am followed by the League Tag at 12.45pm. Then at 2pm the Rovers will take on the defending champions Crookwell in what should be a very tight encounter.
If all that's not enough, the mighty Harden/Boorowa under 16s kick off the weekend on Friday night against Woden Weston at Greenway at 7.30pm. The boys aren't scared of travelling or the dark and should be a massive chance in this game.
The season is really heating up so why not get along to the Boorowa Showground and see three great games of Rugby League. It's the best $5 you'll spend all week.
