It was disappointing that Boorowa travelled to Bungendore with just 14 players and after a couple of nasty injuries, they were forced to play the final 20 minutes with just 12 men. They went down by 46-6 which could have been much worse but for some lion-hearted efforts.
For the Rovers, young gun Austin Power was sensational picking up the three points and players player. Alex Stewart led by example and picked up the two points whilst five-eighth Mick Hinds picked up one point despite suffering a nasty head gash. Hooker Josh Carmody is still in Disney land after a nasty clash as well but should recover before the next start in two weeks. If Boorowa is to be a real threat this year, they will need all hands on deck, particularly in the bigger games.
- Bungendore 46 defeated Boorowa 6 Austin Power Try, Andrew Burns Goal.
- In other games: Crookwell 32 beat Boomanulla 14, UC Grizzlies 40 beat Gunning 4 and Harden 20 narrowly defeated North Canberra 18. Binalong had the bye.
Meanwhile the Roverettes went down by 34-16 against the Bungendore Tigerettes who are always a tough proposition especially at home. The Boorowa side could certainly take plenty of positives out of the game and are getting stronger with every round. Mackella Pye had another blinder to get the three points, Charlie Collier-Rolleston got the two points whilst Georgia Murray was strong again picking up one point. Jamie Lee-Stephenson picked up the Players Player award.
For Boorowa, their 16 points were from Mackella Pye who scored two tries with one to Jamie lee Stephenson. Amanda Noakes landed one goal as did Georgia Murray.
- In other games: UC Grizzlies 34 beat Gunning Rooettes 6 and Harden Hawkettes 34 beat North Canberra Bears 0. Crookwell and Binalong both had Bye's.
Meanwhile the Harden/Boorowa u19's resume after an extended break with a match this Saturday against the Woden Valley Rams to be played at Gungahlin enclosed oval commencing at 10.45am. If you're in the area, why not get along and cheer the boys on.
The Harden/Boorowa under 16s play tomorrow night at Mclean oval in Harden commencing at 7.00pm. This match is against the Tuggeranong Buffaloes and should be a beauty so if you want to get an early footy fix for the weekend, it will be well worth the short trip across the plains to watch the lads.
The Rovers and Roverettes will both have a bye this weekend to fall in line with the Boorowa Picnic Races.
The next game for the Rovers is on Saturday May 11 at the Boorowa Showground at 2pm. The Roverettes will have another bye on May 11. Both teams will play in Boorowa again on Saturday May 18 against Crookwell.
We look forward to enjoying this weekend with all our supporters at the races.
