Boorowa Goldies coach Andrew Corcoran has praised the local and broader rugby communities for their support of last week's inaugural Annalee McGuigan Shield, which raised more than $2000 for Ronald McDonald House.

"I couldn't be happier with how it went. We showed how lucky we are as a club to have so many great members," Corcoran said, adding that "40 or 50 volunteers" helped out on the day.
The coach, who also refereed himself during Saturday's fixtures, also praised Central West Rugby's Matt Tink and Cowra's president Ian Robertson for their support, the latter particularly for his help in organising referees.
"If that's the support we get it just reaffirms it was the right decision [to change]," he said, alluding to the decision to change from ACT-run South Coast Monaro competition to the Central West-run Oilsplus South West tournament.
While Corcoran was pleased with the day, he also believed its focus on charity - the Shield, played against Harden, is named after a child from the Harden area who passed away from a battle with cancer at the age of four - allowed teams, who travelled from around the state, to compete in a relaxed environment.
"We could just enjoy the footy, and enjoy each other's company after the game as well," he said.
While results were somewhat secondary, Corcoran was still pleased with the hit-outs, as the club looks towards impacting a new competition in 2019.
"We got to work on some of our team structures and got to test [ourselves] against different ability teams," Corcoran explained.
The Goldies will travel to Duntroon to take on Yass in a trail match this Saturday, an interesting test for the side after a series of close losses in last year's South Coast Monaro league.
