A group of more than 20 volunteers from the organisation Blaze Aid will be assisting farmers in areas such as Boorowa, Harden and Bendick Murrell to rebuild or replace fences that were damaged due to storms and floods earlier this year.
Volunteer David Staniforth, a retired farmer himself, said he knows firsthand the hardship people on the land face in the aftermath of natural disasters.
"I'm an ex-farmer myself so I know how tough it can be," he said.
"When I retired, I wanted to give back to the community so this is how I do it.
"It will be mainly where the floods have gone through and taking the fences out, we will try and resurrect the fences if they're good enough or we will be helping replace them with new ones, whatever the farmer wants."
Mr Staniforth, who is from Orange, says this is his second time helping out Blaze Aid and says the organisation makes a world of difference to farmers in need.
"It's interesting to see the turn around in some of the farmers after Blaze Aid have been there. You can see the farmers some days saying what are old codgers doing? After a week or a few days, they see that many hands make light work," he said.
"It's a floating community, then on the weekends sometimes, the town folks come out and help out, which is good."
Bruce Gruber from Queanbeyan is a first time volunteer with the organisation and says he's keen to help out.
"The farmers get it pretty hard so I thought I would give a hand and see how we go, as I said, never done it before," he said.
Mr Staniforth said the volunteers also benefit from the organisation.
"The beauty of Blazeaid itself is that we get to meet like-minded people from different walks of life, from different parts of the state and interstate, it's great bonding session, you make some really great friends out of it," he said.
Hilltops Council have given funding to cover the cost of feeding the volunteers for the duration of their stay as well as providing accommodation and amenities at the Showground.
The Rotary Club of Boorowa, Boorowa Lions and the Boorowa Men's Den have also all volunteered to assist with meals for the volunteers during their stay.
