January 26, Australia Day, is upon us again and hopefully Boorowa will turn out in numbers this Saturday to welcome Donna Ciccia, pronounced ‘Chi- cha”, to our town.

Breakfast in the park and fishing from 8.00am, awards ceremony 9.30am, Duck Races, and later bowls, golf and Balladeers.
Donna Ciccia is a very interesting and highly recognised woman being named in the Australian Financial Reviews 100 Women of Influence 2018.
Her personal experiences motivated her to set up Endometriosis Australia in 2012, an organisation she is still very much involved in. Donna is also on the board of Australian Traditional Medicine Society and the National Endometriosis Panel.
It has been a delight to talk to Donna and I know she is looking forward to having a chin wag with a heap of Boorowa people.

Australia Day brings the radicals out of the woodwork denouncing Australia Day as an appropriate day for our National Celebration.
I don’t care what these radicals say, it was definitely no invasion, but a day in 1788 that changed this country forever, a change that has seen this wonderful nation grow from such a small beginning to be the best nation on Earth.
Dr Bella d’Abrera commissioned a poll for the Institute of Public Affairs, a poll conducted by Research Now, a poll that showed overwhelmingly we are proud to be Australian (87 per cent) and want Australia Day to remain as it is, January 26 (76 per cent).
The younger 18 – 25 group saw 55 per cent in favour of the current date with 37 per cent not having an opinion either way … a mere 8 per cent want change.
Dr d’Abrera stated, “We should be proud to be Australian, there is nothing to be ashamed of, the majority will reject the negative rhetoric, they will not be protesting on the streets, but will be with friends and family celebrating what it is to be Australian.”

I’m with most Australians and want Australia Day to remain on January 26.
Nyunggai Warren Mundine does mention ‘invasion’, but he says we should stay with January 26. Satya Marar, from an immigrant family, is vehemently opposed to any change saying, “Very few countries are as honest about their painful histories as Australia.”
Mundine, in a similar vein says, “No nation has a pure history. History is messy and brutal; not about heroes and villains, but real people with successes, failings, virtues and vices.”
Satya Marar and Warren Mundine in their articles both outlined how they enjoy the day with a BBQ, a beer and a swim.
Mundine concluded saying, “Enjoy it and be proud, there is no better country in the world – for all of us, including Aboriginal people – than Australia.”

A mother was visiting her daughter the other night and asked if she could borrow a newspaper.
“This is the 21st century,” the daughter replied, ‘we don’t waste money on newspapers. Here, use my iPad.”
I can tell you this … the fly never knew what hit him …

Us able bodied people can walk the streets of Boorowa, park conveniently for the shops without a problem. This is not always so for people with disabilities.
Sure, footpaths are wide and access is available … except if you want to go to the chemist. There is no disabled parking adjacent to the pharmacy. I can assure you, many wish there was.
Council should be looking very closely at this issue.
