Rain was predicted to start from Tuesday, and while some locations did receive a little, a decent downpour is not predicted to occur until Thursday.

Weatherzone data shows rain should start on Wednesday and continue through until Friday, with Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon to receive the heaviest falls with 55 millimetres predicted across the three days.

Around 50mm is expected in Cowra and Orange, 45mm in Mudgee, while 30mm should fall in Dubbo, Grenfell, Wellington and Young.

A little less is predicted in Forbes and Parkes with around 25mm during the three days, while 15mm is expected in Nyngan.

There is also a chance of widespread thunderstorms on Thursday, Weatherzone meteorologists predict.

So far during December, the Central West has experienced well below average rainfall, with a number of locations recording no rain at all, Bureau of Meteorology data shows.

Forbes and Grenfell have had no rain this month, while Cowra, Dubbo, Lithgow, Nyngan, Oberon, Orange, Parkes, Wellington and Young have all received less than 5mm.

Meanwhile, so far this month, Mudgee has received 8mm of rain and Bathurst has had 15.8mm.
