Caught speeding, then blowing mid-range on the breathaliser, Greg has fallen from grace only hours after being named Australian Captain, an honour that he has lost along with the chance to represent his country again.

Greg takes full responsibility and maybe he could be utilized in a road safety campaign showing what can be lost when you drink drive.

His personal loss is nothing compared to the death and injury we witness on our roads almost daily.

Speaking of drink driving, or drug driving, the State Government has begun to move in the right direction having announced people caught with low range levels (0.05 – 0.079) will be hit with an on the spot $561 fine and lose their licence for three months.

Mid range face stiffer fines, loss of licence and before a licence is re-issued need to fit an interlock breath test machine to their vehicle.

Get caught again and number plates could be confiscated or vehicles impounded.

The other scourge on our roads is drivers using mobile phones and other devices.

Slap on a big fine, take a heap of demerit points and see how first offenders like that.

People these days are too attached to their phones, but when driving leave them alone. They’re not worth dying for.

Something to think about. In one day the human brain generates more electrical impulses than all the telephones in the world put together.

When you see what some drivers do on our roads, it makes you think they must be driving in a blackout.

Getting old can be a bit of a worry. An older couple were lying in bed, the husband was falling asleep but the wife was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk.

She said, “You used to hold my hand when we were courting”.

He reached across, held her hand for a second, then tried to go back to sleep.

A few moments later she said, “Then you used to kiss me”.

Mildly irritated, he gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.

Thirty seconds later she said, “Then you used to bite me on the neck”.

Angrily he threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed.

“Where are you going?” she asked.

“To get my teeth!”

Mayor Brian Ingram took umbrage at the critique I made of his verbose talk he gave to the Boorowa Business Chamber a couple of weeks ago.

In his letter to the Editor (News October 4) he showed he can say quite a bit using a lot less words.
