When Boorowa and district residents have an opportunity to express their concerns about what is good or bad in Boorowa, probably the most frequent complaint is lack of public transport within Boorowa or connection out. Young/Boorowa Community Transport Services have come up with some solutions, namely the link Young to Canberra Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Every second Friday a bus runs from Boorowa to Young. Medical transport is also provided.

Community Transport want to do more to service our needs and input from the community is being sought. A staff member from Community Transport will be in attendance at the Valmar Support Office (adjacent to bakery) each Monday from 10.00am to 2.00pm for the month of September.
A chance is provided for people to learn more about available services, but importantly, put forward ideas regarding services that might more significantly meet the needs of this community. Transport Services are also looking at planning social outings for Boorowa residents. In the words of the Newcastle Song, “Never let a chance go by.” Visit and vocalize your needs September 10, 17 and 24.

We’ve just celebrated Father’s Day and I don’t want to deflate any egos, but, while creating husbands, God promised women that good and ideal husbands would be found in all corners of the world … then he laughed and laughed when he made the world round.

Carinya Court is a wonderful facility providing affordable accommodation for aged and disabled people. The business of running the facility is controlled by a community based committee. This committee is holding its AGM Monday September 10, 7pm, in the old Council Chamber. All are welcome to attend and the committee would welcome a few new faces to replace a few retiring members.

Are we moving too fast with technology? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if each and every one of us couldn’t name someone who, if we took their devices off them for even a day, wouldn’t have some type of breakdown.
A very alarming Sixty Minutes program last Sunday evening focused on two boys, 13 and 14, who are addicted to gaming. They had changed to the extent they rarely left their rooms, didn’t attend school and if denied access became violent.
Gaming addiction is a disease similar to gambling addiction, and excessive involvement can have dire consequences. Brain function solely concentrating on ‘entertainment’, sees other brain faculties diminish and often disappear. The effect on these young minds is frightening, but device addiction, or reliance, is all encompassing and many are virtually ‘glued’ to them.
Steven Spielberg said, “Technology can be your best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we’re too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.”
Consider: “Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards.” (Aldous Huxley)
