These windows, which represent significant local and national importance, are now showing signs of age and are badly in need of attention.
Perhaps the most historically important series of windows are those on the eastern wall of the church, which are in memory of Francis Rawdon Hume, the brother of explorer Hamilton Hume, and his wife Emma, of Castlesteads.
The northern wall contains two stained glass windows, one in memory of Francis Hume’s son Charles Ludovia Hume and his wife Celia Anne Hume, also of Castlesteads, and the other commemorating district pioneer John Ovens.
A spokesperson for the Anglican Church said this week that it was planned to undertake restoration in several stages, with the first stage being either one or both windows on the northern side of the church.
Quotes will be sought from a qualified person, and, once the cost in known, all possible avenues would be explored where applications might be made for heritage and other grants.
The Boorowa Anglican Parish Council has already had discussions with a number of appropriate agencies and individuals, including State Member for Goulburn Prue Goward.
Quite apart from the significance of the windows as a feature of the local Anglican Church, they are of inestimable importance for their place in the heritage of the district and of the nation.
