Mr Minns and Dr Stephens also met with the new General Manager of Goldenfields Water, Darryl Hancock, to discuss progress with the business case being prepared for connecting the Boorowa community via a pipeline.
Mayor Ingram expressed his concern that Boorowa’s water supply should be resolved as an “urgent priority which was delayed because of the time it has taken to settle the new organisation after council amalgamations”.
Mr Minns was given a briefing of the connection challenges that are being considered and the benefits the pipeline would bring to the region.
Goldenfields Water and Council have begun preliminary planning and a Stage 2 Business Plan will hopefully be completed by the end of the year.
While Mr Hancock was reluctant to put a price tag on the pipeline at this stage, he said that pipelines need to be planned for future population growth.
Dr Stephens said that the Boorowa community’s water supply has been an ongoing issue, so she was pleased to hear that progress is finally being made.
“It will mean that Boorowa residents can have confidence about local investment, and allow Hilltops Council to move forward on its settlement strategy and infrastructure planning.”
Dr Stephens has begun doorknocking in the district in the lead up to the March 2019 election.
“It’s a long campaign, and I’m intending to meet to as many people as I can,” she said.
“The Goulburn electorate extends from Berrima to Boorowa.”
