Mr Stadtmiller said he feared Young High was being set up to become a super school to the detriment of other schools in the district.
“If the state government want to turn Young High School into a super school that is going to become an issue for both the residents of Young and the surrounding towns,” he said
“If it does turn into a super school then what are the other schools in the district getting?
“Schools like Cootamundra, Grenfell and Boorowa, none of these schools are very big, and if Harden loses its high school, then it isn’t a town anymore it is a village.
“So the state government needs to come clean and tell us all what is happening.”
But, a Department of Education spokesman said the current library proposal would not have any negative impact on other schools in the district.
“The Department of Education is currently working in partnership with Hilltops Council on the planning and feasibility of a joint-use library facility for Young High School, to be used by students and the community,” the spokesman said.
“The library proposal will not have any impact on other public schools in the region, including secondary provision at Boorowa, Harden-Murrumburrah and Grenfell.
“The Department of Education does not have any other planned capital works projects in Young.”
The spokesman said plans for the new library would look at opportunities to create space for a well-being hub, art workshop and a Wiradjuri learning and cultural centre.
“The improvements in library facilities will benefit local schools and enhance learning and teaching opportunities at Young High School which has enjoyed a steady growth of enrolments from 529 to 602 over the past four years,” he said.
