This is the story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, three brilliant African-American women, working at NASA in the early 1960’s, who were the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn. This achievement put America right back in the Space Race.
This brilliant and visionary trio crossed all gender and racial lines at a time coloured people faced dreadful prejudice and segregation. Their work went on to help put man on he moon and has inspired generations.
Touched emotionally, I have to admit there was more than an emotive tear in my eye. “Hidden Figures’ is available on DVD and can be taken on loan from the library. Find a copy, you’ll love it.

For the last two years, people doing Christmas alone have received a very generous lift in the festive season with a free Christmas lunch. Richard Banks wants to help this heart-warming Christmas treat with a little fundraising.
Richard is putting on a Christmas in July Dinner in conjunction with a Neil Diamond concert. All happening at the Ex-Services Club Friday, July 27 with dinner at 7pm and show at 8pm. Dinner is typical Christmas Fare and the menu sounds delicious.
For information or bookings, contact the Club on 6385 3338. Dinner and show $50, show only $25. Richard is going to donate $5 from every ticket sold to the ‘Christmas Alone Luncheon’ in December. Do the maths … 100 people means $500.00 to this charitable Christmas Lunch.

Why does this happen? Last week we talked about the “Day for the Blokes’ evening. This too is scheduled for Friday July 27, 6pm at the Recreation Club. Both events need good attendance, so a suggested solution. Fellas, toddle off to the Blokes Night and ladies, get a group together and head off to Richard’s Christmas in July and Concert.

Love to see young people having a go and putting a little faith in their town. Bec Bruce has opened up ‘Bec Bruce Photography’ in the southern room of the premises occupied by Pallet Furniture. Some delightful photographs to be seen. All the best Bec.

We’ve all seen images of criminal thugs robbing jewellery stores, smashing all the display cases, grab and run. A fellow in Arkansas (US) wanted a beer so badly, he tried to throw a cinder block through a liquor store window. The cinder block bounced off the plexi-glass window knocking the would be thief out cold. There you are jewellers, use plexi-glass instead of glass. Might save you an expensive repair bill.
