The Club has supported worthy national charities such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the SouthCare Helicopter, Ronald McDonald House, Karinya House; along with very commendable local causes such as the Long Day Care Centre, Burrowa House, the Hospital Auxiliary, and local P&C Organisations.
Each year the event is an outstanding success, and with many hours of work by the rugby committee in the lead up to each year’s festivities, the Club manages to creatively come up with entertaining initiatives to raise funds, which always produce much laughter and merrymaking.
This year will see the Goldies raising money for the McGrath Foundation.
The McGrath Foundation is a story with a simple – but well-known – beginning.
It started with Jane and Glenn McGrath’s very public experience with breast cancer, and has become one of Australia’s most recognised and respected charities.
The mission for the Foundation has become an enduring commitment to support thousands of women and men every day, no matter where they live.
McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals (and their families) experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support.
From the time of diagnosis, and throughout treatment, this support is available for free no matter whether you’re in the private or public health system.
The McGrath Foundation funds 119 McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia, mostly in regional and rural areas where such treatment may be hard to find.
Ladies’ Day is such a wonderful opportunity to support this great cause.
Our community is luck to have a McGrath Breast Care Nurse located in Young, and perhaps our small donation will help obtain another nurse for our region.
The customary ‘Ladies Tent’ will be set up at the rugby field, where all ladies in attendance at the match will receive a complimentary champagne, nibblies and some fantastic company for the afternoon!
Make sure you invite your family and friends to join us on the day, as the Boorowa Goldies love to play in front of a large crowd, especially those players competing for the all-important Ladies’ Day ‘Chicks’ Pick’.
The colour theme this year will be pink to reflect the McGrath Foundation logo and the Goldies will be playing in specially designed pink jumpers.
Join us for an evening of fun to follow the rugby at the Boorowa Hotel (Top Pub) where there will be a huge charity auction, including the playing jerseys from the day.
The major auction item this year will be a Murrumbateman Winery Tour – a Sunday bus trip to visit a number of wineries and will include wine tasting, cheese platters and lunch.
The tour can cater for 16, so organise a syndicate and get ready for the bidding.
A new auction item introduced this year will be a “Corporate box at the Rugby” – eight people will have an elevated view of the game, be seated in lounge chairs, enjoy free drinks and food.
The box is situated at the Boorowa Showground and will be available on July 14 when the Goldies play Batemans Bay.
Definitely another item that will be hotly contested.
The Rugby Club invites everyone to join us on Ladies’ Day, June 24.
