It was also Sponsors’ Day, many of our faithful sponsors turning up and showing their support in cheering on the boys.
With a near full strength team, the boys were going in with positivity.
The back line was changed up a little, with Brad Rose starting at 12 and Tom the Pom starting at 10.
It turned out to be a really good combination that got the backs moving on many occasions.
The Goldies got out to a strong start with a really well worked try scored by someone… Not too sure really but someone scored because I did hear a cheers.
Greeny kicked the extras and also had a really good day from the tee.
Unfortunately Tim Greggory went off very early with an ankle injury.
Hopefully it isn’t anything too serious and he will be okay for this weekend.
Having Tom Simson back after his ankle injury made a huge difference, making some really strong tackles and carrying well.
Shane Friend had a monster game in the front row, scoring a try under the post in the second half after a monster run from the ten meter line.
He also played a full 80 minutes which was great to see.
I asked our captain Marty Corcoran for a quote to which he replied, “the Boorowa Hooker was really the star of the day. Ah no only joking. You couldn’t fault the effort on the weekend, we never gave up, unfortunately it just wasn’t our day and we will now have a big week training to go down to Taralga and improve our game”.
Truer words never spoken.
Good on ya Marty party.
With a few new faces playing this week and making a difference things can only get better for the Goldies.
Jesus came on in the forward for the injured Groggy and A-A-Ron made his long awaited introduction to the Goldies jersey at centre in the second half and made a great offload to set up a try much to the delight to his screaming Misso.
Like Mart said the effort was there all day. That was very evident.
Sadly one or two missed tackles that lead to two tries make the difference as Yass ran out winners by four points 32-28.
Coach Feta said after the game, “Although the result didn’t go our way, the group is really starting to play some great rugby and getting closer to playing the game we are training hard to achieve. Losing Tim Greggers in the first minute hurt and was a huge loss but the forwards adapted well and stuck it up front to a big Yass pack. Crowd favorites Friendy and the Bear (or Jesus) were devastating in the midfield and will be hard for Taralga to stop this weekend”.
Again a huge shout out to all our sponsors.
Without them we would not be able to function.
Also a huge shout out to Russell who manned the BBQ all day and made sure that everyone was fed, Jo Rowley and Julie Harton who manned the bar.
Another stellar performance from them both.
Just a tip for everyone, don’t stand in front of Jo and block her view of the game when she is behind the bar.
She threw two stubbies at the back of my head.
She takes it very seriously.
Thankfully though we managed to restrain her at half time from going onto the pitch and giving one of her team motivational talks.
This week the points went to:
- 3 Points – Brad Rose (Of course he did)
- 2 Points – Some English Bloke
- 1 Point – Gull McGrath
- Players’ Player – Gull McGrath.
This week’s chick pick went to the one and only Mal Gay.
Mal also started the boat race in the Top Pub after the game.
I asked Mal in the pub what it meant to him to get the Chicks Pick, “ahh Irish Flem to be honest it is no real surprise. I have been coming to games here for years and there hasn’t been one game where a member of the opposite sex hasn’t come up to me and told me how great I look, how well I dress and my sex appeal just seeps through my body. So no I am not surprised. I encourage others to try and get the chick’s pick but let’s face it, I own it”.
Interesting Malcolm. Very interesting Malcolm.
This weekend we play Taralga in Taralga.
