I then applied to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and was again successful in having his grave in the Boorowa Cemetery classified as an official War Grave and therefore under the perpetual care of the Office of Australian War Graves.
Four years on, after a patient wait as there is quite a procedure to go through, I have this day been informed that the Council of the Australian War Memorial have approved Tommy’s name to be added to the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial.
You will be able to see his entry in their online Roll of Honour in a few days and his name will be added to the WW2 Supplementary Panel in the AWM Cloisters when next they do an update.
Seeing that Anzac Day was commemorated last week, I thought the people of Boorowa, who may still remember the Zickby family, would be interested in this final recognition.
