The Alcohol Free zone was established in May 1999 after Boorowa Shire Council, at its ordinary meeting on December 16, 2013, resolved to extend the declaration of Alcohol Free Zones in the main commercial precincts.
In a report to Hilltops Council, the council’s acting general manager David Aber said the original declaration had now lapsed and pointed out that anti social behaviour in the area had remained low.
”It has been noted by the public and staff that the incidence of damage directly attributable to alcohol induced behaviour within the main street areas has maintained in the last four (4) year period at a low volume,” Mr Aber said.
“Council has on several occasions suspended the declaration for major events of special circumstances. There is demonstrated need for the Policy to remain and this is evident from requests from the Local Police, to re-establish these zones.”
As a result of extending the declaration period Council will amend its signage by replacement sign which shall be fitted to the existing signage.
The council will confirm its decision to the Local Area Command, Boorowa Police and through a public notice.
