They came out of the hills, the scrub, the Flats, the cities and Rye Park… The old blokes that is…
There were Zimmer frames, crutches, medical cars, assistance nurses scattered along the sideline looking after all the old boys who came out to watch a great game of country footy between the Goldies and Gungahlin.
For the third week in a row, the Goldies had to contend with above ideal temperature for playing footy, but it didn’t stop them from putting on a great performances.
As usual the forward were lead up front by Timmy Groggie, the guy has a serious engine.
However close behind him, and who will probably be the buy of the season and worth all the money spent on him, is George Evans.
He made some monster tackles and carried well.
He also got sinned binned for asking the ref if he could play the second half nude!
For the record he didn’t play the second half nude.
Also upfront Marty Pocock Corcoran had an enormous game before going off with a broken eyelash.
In the half he played, he managed to steal three ruck balls and throw all of his lineouts straight.
Massive game by Mart and hopefully his injury will not keep him out of this weekend’s game.
The backs also gelled well this week.
The combinations and structures that Coon has been implementing are slowing beginning to pay off.
Players are getting to know each other and what to expect.
Jye Patterson again on numerous occasions cut the opposition defence right open with some dazzling stepping.
Poppy also ran some great lines from full back and kept the opposition defence thinking for the first half.
He didn’t manage to play the second half as he had to go to Cowra to get his hair dyed.
Supposedly he is over his ginger complexion.
I would be too.
Now I really don’t like writing this.
It is against my beliefs, what I stand for, who I am, what I represent but credit where credit is due, Brad Rose once again had an outstanding game.
Most people wont realise that Brad has been carrying an ankle injury since the start of the season (hence why he isn’t kicking goals) but he still manages to turn up every week, steer the team around and again score two tries.
Great effort Brad.
This week’s notable mention goes to Jo Rowley (she will hate this) every home game Jo along with the Boring Flemo make sure that there is beer, food, snacks and merchandise on the sideline which makes the experience for everyone more enjoyable.
This week’s points went to:
3 points – George Evans as well as players’ player
2 points – Can’t remember
1 point – not really sure either, might have been Tim Groggery.
Thanks to all the old boys for coming along to the game.
I know it’s a huge effort and stress to get out and to a footy game. Fair play. Even Phil Gay got there. Good on ya Philly boy.
This weeks game is away against the Bungendore Mudchooks. Kick off is 3.30pm. Get there as Mully said he is going to do a nude run at half time.
