The ball tampering scandal that has rocked Australian cricket, and Australia, is undoubtedly an embarrassing disappointment.

History is littered with dalliances and indiscretions that have brought down kings, presidents, prime ministers, film/TV producers and many more, as it turned out, not so noble people of ‘high regard’.
The three players have been punished and have expressed their regrets and sorrow.
They will have a long time to think about their mistake.
A caller on ‘Talking Sport’ summed it up very well saying, “I cannot believe that elite sportsmen, playing at the top of their game, could be so stupid.”
Same could be said about the luninaries we’ve referred to earlier in this piece … sometimes you just shake your head in disbelief.

Prior to the Easter break, there was saturation advertising and appeals from police commanders nationwide asking motorists over the holiday period to slow down and drive safely.
Police advised us there would be extensive drink and drug driving testing and police would be out in force to ensure drivers obey the law.
They wanted a toll free holiday.
It is now time to ask the question, “Were they successful?”
At time of writing, crashes in NSW have been substantially reduced with two deaths recorded.
Alarmingly, despite all the advertising and police presence, for a wide range of offences tickets issued is up about 20%.
I guess you could say moderate success. Where to from here? How do we make our roads safer?

On March 22 I wrote a piece condemning the actions of the ‘Gang of 5’ regarding their decision that forced the Hilltops General Manager to tender his resignation. Alarmingly, one other Councilor left the room to avoid voting. I have received many positive comments regarding what I wrote and to this day I have heard no comment supporting the decision of the ‘Gang of 5’, everyone has vigorously condemned their decision.
It is becoming obvious divisions are forming in the new Council, factions that could very well destabilize the workings of Council and if it turns out this current council is unworkable, could that mean council could be sacked, and, an administrator put in?
It’s amazing how mankind are judged by their actions, actions that can make them soar – or come crashing down.

An elderly bloke owned a large Queensland property. He had a dam in one of his lower paddocks where he’d planted fruit trees and had the dam made suitable for swimming, even installing picnic tables under the shade of the fruit trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the dam to look it over as he hadn’t been down for a while. He grabbed a bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the dam, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
He came closer and saw it was a bunch of young women skinny dipping in his dam. He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, “We’re not coming out until you leave!”
The old man frowned, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the dam naked.” Holding the bucket up, he said, “I’m here to feed the crocodile.”
Moral: Old men may walk slow, but they can still think fast.
