Rugby league international Terry Lamb, Dual Rugby and League International Michael O’Connor and Internationally renowned jockey Malcolm Johnston will attend the Rovers and Roverettes season launch on the evening of Saturday, March 24, reliving and sharing their experiences on the International sporting stage.

The evening will commence at 6pm and feature talks by all three superstars about their illustrious careers.

Cost for the night will be $40 which includes finger food.

No bookings are required but this night should be well attended so be there early.  

Later in the night a range of sporting memorabilia will be on offer for auction including some exclusive articles supplied by the speakers themselves.

The items include a fully signed 2017 Waratahs jumper, Malcolm Johnston/ Kingston Town print, Framed and signed Terry Lamb photo, Framed Michael O’Connor signed footy cards, Goldies vintage footy jumper signed by Michael O’connor, Bondi Rescue shirt signed by Harries and much much more including lots of raffle prizes.

There is also a signed Dragons jumper and a signed Raiders jumper and football which should appeal to the countless local Dragons and Raiders fans.

This will be a night not to be missed.

To have these three sporting icons for a night of entertainment is a major coup for Boorowa and the night will be filled with many interesting and humorous stories from these excellent seakers.

Michael O’Connor played in 13 union tests for the Wallabies before playing a further 18 league tests for the mighty Kangaroos.

His distinguished career included one premiership with Manly in 1987.

Terry Lamb’s longevity in the NRL was highlighted by 350 appearances at the top level.

He played eight state of origins along with seven tests for the Kangaroos and holds the rare distinction of playing in every game of a Kangaroo tour.

Malcolm Johnston was a high profile Jockey who was ahead of his time. 

He rode in 12 Melbourne Cups and is remembered by many punters for his combination with the mighty Kingston town in the early 80’s winning the 1980 Cox Plate with this famous horse. 

He traversed the globe far and wide riding over 2000 winners in eleven countries.

Michael, Terry and Malcolm will only be too happy to answer any of your questions during the evening so what better way to support your league teams then to attend this fantastic function. 

Members of our current teams will be on hand as well so it’s the perfect chance to meet and greet our Rovers and Roverettes. Meanwhile the build up to the season proper continues to gain momentum. 

Both the Rovers and Roverettes are training hard and will play in a trial game against the UC Grizzlies on Saturday March 17 at the Boorowa Show ground for the Chris Turner Memorial Shield. 

Both teams have maintained the majority of their rosters from last year and together with one or two new players added to their squads, should look towards a bright season. 

The competition will kick off on Saturday, April 7 with an away game against Binalong before the first home game of the year in round two on April, 14 against the Grizzlies. 

The season will be eighteen rounds long with ten teams entering the competitions. 

The new field at the show ground is coming along well and are expected to be in use very shortly. Construction of new facilities is also progressing and will hopefully be in use during the coming season.

Josh Burns has returned as the Rovers coach for a second season looking to erase the disappointment of last years semi final defeats whilst Brendon Shean has returned to coach the Roverettes who did an amazing job last season to make the semi finals. 

Currently training is Wednesday at 6.30pm for the Rovers and on Tuesday at 6.30pm for the Roverettes. This will change as touch football winds down and daylight saving becomes a memory for another summer. It’s not too late for new players to get on board.

It’s shaping up as a massive year for local Rugby League and we want you to be a part of it either as a spectator or in a more hands on roll with the committee.
