The truck rolled about 12.45pm on Wednesday afternoon, however extra machinery was required to help clear the heavy vehicle about 40kms from Cowra, two kilometers south of the Kenyu Road turnoff.
The uninjured driver, a 33-year-old male from Craigieburn, Victoria, has been issued with an infringement notice for negligent driving, Young Police boss, Inspector Scott Wilkinson said.
“Driver error was issue,” Inspector Wilkinson said.
“There was no issue with the heavy vehicle. It was examined by Young RMS [Roads and Maritime Services].
“There was an issue with recovering the vehicle due to its weight and size. Additional machinery was called in.”
On Friday, the Lachlan Valley Way between Cowra and Boorowa was closed for two-and-a-half hours from about 12.20pm to 2.50pm while Hilltops Council staff cleared the truck from side of the road. Motorists from Cowra were diverted at Legh Street and were forced to detour via Young along the Olympic Highway.
Similarly, motorists travelling north from Boorowa were diverted at the intersection of Murringo Road and the Lachlan Valley Way.
That then linked with the Olympic Highway to Cowra.
“This will add around 40 minutes extra travel time to your trip and is suitable for all vehicles,” Hilltops Council said in a statement on Thursday morning.
Police, the Rural Fire Service and council staff attended the scene at the time of the accident.
The truck was northbound when it left the road.
Traffic control was put in place while council staff worked to clear the road, however the recovery was postponed and recommenced about 12pm on Friday.
“The northbound lane is partially blocked, with traffic control currently in place,” an initial statement from Hilltops Council said.
The driver was able to get free from the truck himself and call police.
Paramedics weren’t required to attend, Inspector Wilkinson said.
