Christmas and New Year’s Eve have been celebrated.
Test match cricket has come and gone (Great win against the poms) The Boorowa Pharmacy has placed a big strapping tape order, footy talk has returned to the pubs, Mulley has joined the committee, a brand-new set of Goldies jerseys have arrived, improvements are under way,
At the Boorowa Showground and people’s attention is now focused on the upcoming 2018 Rugby season.
A wise old Rugby man once said that “Rugby may well have its problems, but undoubtedly the gravest, is that of the persistence of summer”.
The Goldies are done with summer, let’s get on with it.
As I look forward to the 2018 season I also reflect on 2017.
A year not without its adversity but one in which, despite that, we were able to secure a finals spot and avoid losing to the to the eventual premiers.
I extend a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the club to Marty Corcoran, Duncan McGrath, Mike Ward and Gary Harton for their dedication.
Without it, things would have unfolded differently.
The 2018 season brings with it a change at helm.
Whilst Marty (Corcoran) will remain in the Captain’s gernsey, he has gracefully and willingly stood aside for his cousin, Andrew Corcoran, to take on the coaching role.
Andrew brings with him a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge to enhance and build on Marty and Duncan’s success.
Andrew, whose father David played in the premiership winning side of 1985, has pulled on a gold jersey himself a few times and is therefore also familiar (and supportive) of the very important social aspects of the Boorowa Ruby Club.
That and his coaching skills will make him a welcome addition in 2018.
We are also very pleased to announce that Duncan McGrath will remain as assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Duncan’s contribution on and off the field (sideline) embodies the spirit of the Boorowa Rugby Club.
In addition to that Club stalwart Ben Johnson will also assist in a backs coaching role this year, further enhancing the very formidable leadership team.
A vast number of players from last year are backing up again, an old player or two are coming back… and a trickle of new players are putting their hand up to join our ranks.
Mark my words, we are in for another healthy year, on and off the field.
We extend our appreciation to our Major Sponsor, the Boorowa Hotel who has signed up for another year, and to all our sponsors. They make it possible.
Training has commenced at the Boorowa Recreation Ovals. We encourage anyone and everyone to come for a run.
If you are short or tall, skinny or fat, young or old, drunk or sober, fit or unfit, can play or not, have green eye’s, blue eye’s or red hair, we don’t care.
Everyone is welcome, so come along! Here’s to another great year of Boorowa Rugby!
