If you’ve spotted a car with a bunny on the bonnet in Brial Street, you might be interested to know that that car will be heading on a mystery, five-day journey for a very worthy cause.
Cherylee and Pierre Mears will be behind the wheel of “Boorowa Rumbledore” during the Riverina Redneck Rally in March to raise money for the Country Hope Trust.
Cherylee says the rally has been on their bucket list for quite some time.
“Country Hope is a country based, family centred support organisation for children diagnosed with cancer and other chronic life threatening illnesses,” Cherylee said.
“We thought it would be great to raise money for a charity that provides support to country kids and their families.
“A great way to raise much needed funds for a very worthwhile cause while having fun.”
The five day trip begins at Hillston and ends in Darlington Point, however the destination each day is a mystery.
“Each day teams will be issued with the days itinerary and next planned stopover destination for that day,” Cherylee said.
Cherylee said there is plenty of fun to be had along the way.
“Day one of the rally is dress up day. Teams are required to dress up as something beginning with the first letter of there team’s name. Our team name is Boorowa Rumbledore so we will dress in something beginning with B,” she said.
“Each team is required to make a Rocket Cover Racer to race at a couple of locations along the way to involve the community.”
The event allows for two-wheel drive cars only, with teams of two drivers per car driving 2500km. Each team needs to raise at least $2500 to participate. The Mears’ have raised $5790 so far.
“Thanks to everyone who has kindly donated. Money raised is not used for expenses and all donations go to Country Hope.”
You can get behind their cause by heading along to two great fundraisers the Mears’ are holding in February.
On Saturday, February 10, The Rat Bags will be performing at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club with an auction on the night to raise money for the rally (see opposite).
And on Saturday, February 24, at 6pm for a 6:30pm start, there will be a Barefoot Bowls night at the Boorowa Recreation Club. Teams of three at a cost of $10 per person. Teams can dress up in any costumes if they wish. To book phone Recreation Club on 6385 3224.
