The Rail, Train and Bus Union had imposed an overtime ban on their drivers, forcing the government to shift to the equivalent of a weekend timetable and was planning a 24-strike on Monday.
It threatened to send Sydney and the wider state into chaos, and led to the Fair Work Commission banning the industrial action.
NSW TrainLink has said it is working hard to return to normal operation but chief operating officer, Pete Allaway said it was taking time to change train timetables and to expect delays and disruptions.
“We are working hard to restore regional train services as soon as possible, and will continue to contact booked customers to advise them of any change to their service,” Mr Allaway said.
“Customers should expect some regional train services to be replaced by coaches over the weekend,” he said.
According to the Transport NSW website, XPT services between Dubbo and Central would be running over the long weekend and Monday but customers are advised to continue to check transportnsw.info for the latest information.
The government has also said congestion in Sydney may be higher because of the increased number of motorists on the road. Information on traffic conditions can be found at livetraffic.com.
