As mentioned last week, it was great to see the flags displaying Christmas motifs flying in Marsden and Pudman Streets.
Last year, Boorowa was bare of Christmas decoration, many made comment as to how well Young looked (as it does this year), with decorated roundabouts and poles and lamps bedecked with red tinsel. All this decoration was the property of the former Young Council.
Boorowa used to have lights in the streets, Christmas motifs on the poles and the tree in front of the council chamber festooned with Christmas lighting.
The question has been asked of me, “Why aren’t these decorations we’ve used in the past not being utilized now?”
Good question, maybe someone can supply the answer.
On a positive note, the flags look fabulous and I do believe there will be more added to the Christmas decoration.
Here we are talking about Christmas, the New Year is almost upon us and before too long we’ll be celebrating Australia Day.
Boorowa will welcome the epitome of multi-media broadcasting, described deservedly as the most versatile, informed and professional person in Australian media today – the irrepressible Susie Elelman AM.
We have been blessed with many wonderful Ambassadors visiting us on Australia Day, and welcoming Susie Elelman as our Australia Day Ambassador is very exciting.
As a footnote, Zoe Naylor, our 2014 Ambassador will visit Young this coming Australia Day.
Last Saturday, December 16, two women married in Sydney becoming the first same-sex couple to marry under newly introduced laws. According to reports, the ceremony went off without a hitch.
Now that’s a worry. I thought when you married you got ‘hitched’.
Undoubtedly, my favourite Christmas carol is ‘Silent Night’. I may be bold enough to say it is probably most people’s favourite.
‘Stille Nacht’ was composed in 1818 by Franz Zaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and first performed in St Nicholas Parish Church in that year.
Father Joseph Mohr had come to Oberndorf the year before. He asked local school teacher and church organist Franz Zaver Gruber prior to that particular Christmas to compose a melody to go with his lyrics.
Planning to play it that Christmas, a problem with the organ meant a quitar accompaniment had to be produced. Together they performed the new carol on the night of December 24, 1818.
An old guy was working out in a gym when he spotted a beautiful young girl walk in. He asked the trainer standing next to him, “What machine should I use to impress the young lady over there?”
The trainer looked the old guy over and said, “I recommend the ATM in the lobby.”
Just before Christmas, an honest politician, a generous lawyer and Santa got into a lift at the Ritz in London.
As the lift travelled from the 5th to the ground floor, one by one they noticed a fifty pound note lying on the lift floor.
Which one picked up the fifty pond note?
Santa of course – the other two don’t actually exist.
I did say I was going to leave the pollies alone, but then again I couldn’t resist. Merry Christmas John.
To you all, have a wonderful Christmas and a New Year full of wonderful things we can talk about in 2018.
