Reported incidents of sexual assault have increased in the Hilltops Local Government Area (LGA) over the past 12 months according to the latest crime statistics from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.

According to the statistics, there were 49 reported incidents of sexual assault in the Hilltops LGA between September 2016 and September 2017, compared to 19 incidents in the year prior.
The rate of sexual assault in the Hilltops LGA is also higher per 100,000 population than the state of NSW.
For every one person per 100,000 population in NSW that is sexually assaulted, 3.5 people per 100,000 are sexually assaulted in the Hilltops LGA.
There has also been an increase in the rates of recorded break and enters (dwelling), break and enters (non-dwelling), steal from motor vehicle and fraud.
The number of incidents of break and enter (dwelling) rose from 54 in 2015/2016 to 61 in the last 12 months.
Break and enter (non-dwelling) incidents jumped from 16 to 41 incidents from September 2016 to September 2017.
This bucks the trend for the rest of the state, with break and enter (dwelling) down 7.8% and break and enter (non-dwelling) down 5.8% statewide.
Steal from motor vehicle is also on the rise in the Hilltops LGA, with 53 reported incidents in 2015/2016 to 61 incidents in the previous 12 months.
Reported incidents of fraud in the Hilltops LGA also increased from 57 in the 12 months prior to 78 in 2016/2017.
Fraud across NSW has fallen 8.5% according to the statistics.
There have been dramatic decreases in a number of areas over the past 12 months as well, with rates of indecent assault, steal from retail store, steal from dwelling and malicious damage to property down on the previous 12 months.
Incidents of indecent assault dropped from 39 to 34, steal from retail store decreased from 49 to 38, steal from dwelling dropped from 62 to 40 and malicious damage to property dramatically fell from 275 recorded incidents to 212 in the past 12 months.
Rates of steal from dwelling and malicious damage to property have fallen statewide by 5.7% and 2.7% respectively.
Rates of domestic violence related assault, non-domestic violence related assault, robbery, motor vehicle theft and steal from person have remained stable over the past 12 months.
