General Manager Anthony McMahon said under the waste voucher scheme, ratepayers will receive two vouchers, making them eligible to dispose of certain types of waste for free. It’s hoped the vouchers will help reduce incidents of illegal dumping in the region.
“The waste voucher scheme means Hilltops households will be able to use the tip free-of-charge on two different occasions to get rid of either their general waste, green waste or bulky goods like mattresses and lounges,” Mr McMahon said.
Vouchers will be valid until July 2018. The vouchers stipulate the volume and type of waste permitted under the scheme. Any rate-payer who has not received a voucher for their property (or properties) should contact Hilltops Council on (02) 6380 1200. Residents should also note that Boorowa’s tip hours haven’t changed.
Mr McMahon said residents in Young and Boorowa will also notice new garbage trucks making their way through the streets, as Council’s new waste contractors commence operations.
“Council's new contractors, JR Richards, officially started yesterday (Wednesday) collecting the garbage and recycling in Young and Boorowa,” Mr McMahon said.
“The colourful new trucks have some great graphics to encourage people to think more about their waste.
“Residents should be aware that bins will be collected on the same day as usual, but the trucks may do a different route and might arrive at a different time, so make sure you have your bins out the night before in case the truck comes earlier than usual,” he said.
