Alongside Binalong and Yass, community members hit the pools to compete in the inter-town swimming competition and win the coveted Shine Shield, donated by the late Buster Shine, a local Binalong grazier.
This competition was established to encourage a friendly, competitive swimming carnival, while also providing some fun, family entertainment and social opportunities over the summer holidays.
Over the years, Harden and Jugiong joined the competition, however Boorowa has not participated since 2007.
So, after a decade long hiatus, BOOROWA IS BACK and we welcome all members of the community to join us.
The Shine Shield is about both children and adults, participating and having fun, swimming for their town.
Swimming club membership is NOT required so bring your family and your friends.
Race entries are made on the night at no cost.
Boorowa is hosting the first Shine Shield for 2018 on Saturday, January 6.
Warm-up starts at 5pm with races set to start at 6pm.
If there are any local businesses or volunteers who would like to come on board and help to run this exciting event, please contact Gary Harton on 0427 600 029 or Sarah Rose on sarah.rose2@bigpond.com.
The other 2018 Shine Shield Carnivals will be held at Harden on Wednesday, January 10, Binalong on Sunday, January 14, Jugiong on Wednesday, January 17 and Yass on Saturday, January 20.
Come to one of them, come to all of them – whatever suits you, your family and your friends!
Let’s bring the Shine Shield back to Boorowa!
