Following extensive community consultation, the Hilltops Economic Action Plan has been drafted and was endorsed by Councillors at the November Ordinary Meeting of Council.
Residents are now being encouraged to provide feedback on the draft plan (previously referred to as the Economic Development Strategy), which Mayor Brian Ingram describes as a key strategic document for the Hilltops Council – and region – going forward.
“As we put in place the foundations for strong economic growth, it’s so important to identify our strengths so we can fully harness our potential,” Mayor Ingram said.
“The draft Hilltops Economic Action Plan is the culmination of a series of community engagement activities including public forums and meetings, stakeholder interviews and consultation with various business chambers and Council committees.
“It was during this consultation that strategies to promote a sustainable economy for the Hilltops Region were identified. These strategies – to be implemented over the short, medium and long-term – will not only help promote economic diversification, but will also help provide a boost to our existing industries.
“This includes seeking and welcoming new investment in the Hilltops Region, to ensure we sustain and increase our economic output by broadening our regional economic base.
“This document is also an important tool for Council to have at its disposal when it comes to lobbying the State and Federal Government for project funding; it will clearly articulate the direction we’re heading and the ways we’re going to get there through collaboration, industry attraction, industry expansion and business capacity building.”
The draft Hilltops Economic Action Plan has been developed with partner funding from the Murray Darling Basin Regional Economic Diversification Program – Round 2 Energiser Enterprise Fund.
