Hilltops Council is leading the way in innovative regional tourism marketing with the launch of a new website that offers translation services for visitors from lucrative Asian markets.

Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram said the website – www.visithilltopsregion.com.au – showcases the wide array of attractions and experiences available across the Hilltops area, and is already helping drive visitors to the area.
“This is no ordinary tourism website; this is an information portal that provides visitors with a window into our backyard at the click of a button,” Mayor Ingram said.
“Visitors to the website have ready-access to information on the impressive variety of food and wine experiences we have to offer, as well as the historic attractions, regional draw-cards and festival celebrations we’re quickly becoming renowned for.
“What really sets this website apart though is that now, tourists planning their trip to the Region can access the information in English, as well as simplified and traditional Chinese. By making information easily accessible for those coming from one of our key tourism markets, we’re creating a point of difference that sets us apart in the highly competitive push to attract tourism dollars.
“As well as the translation service on the website, we have a Chinese tourism officer who is able to assist Mandarin and Korean speakers who are seeking information, directions and assistance when they arrive in town.
“This sort of service is invaluable to visitors from non-English speaking backgrounds, and helps provide a welcoming experience that they then go home and tell their friends about.
“The tourism team also posts information about the Hilltops Region on popular Chinese social media platforms such as QQ, YouKu, Weibo and WeChat.
“Recent figures have shown that visitors to the Hilltops Region are spending a massive $79 million in our Region every year and we want to make sure this continues; it’s tourism services like this that will help ensure we continue to attract people to the area,” he said.
Mayor Ingram said the start of the cherry season as well as the upcoming National Cherry Festival, has resulted in an influx of traffic through the Visitor Information Centre in Young.
“Tourism numbers in the Region are certainly on the rise, particularly at this time of year,” Mayor Ingram said.
“The excellent and proactive staff at the Visitor Information Centre tell me they’ve been extremely busy over the past few weeks, and I expect this to continue as we head towards what I have no doubt, will be the best Cherry Festival yet!” he said.
