At the recent Ordinary Meeting of Council, Hilltops Councillors reaffirmed their support for existing community and regional committees, while also endorsing the creation of a number of new committees.
Mayor Brian Ingram explained the committees – most of which are known as Section 355 Committees – are an ideal way for people to become involved and participate in the work Council is undertaking on behalf of the entire region, and assist in the decision-making processes for a variety of Council’s functions.
“When I took on the role of Mayor at Hilltops Council’s first ever meeting, I promised that the new Council would be an inclusive one; this is a goal firmly shared by my fellow Councillors and these committees are a great way for people to engage with us and make a significant and positive contribution,” Mayor Ingram said.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has previously been involved in Council’s 355 Committees; your participation has been invaluable and I urge each and every one of you to continue the work you’ve been doing and put your hand up once again to be a part of your particular committee group.
“At the same time, we want to encourage new members to come forward, so if you’re a member of the community with a particular interest and you’d like to help shape Council’s work from within, then we want to hear from you too.
“As well as the existing committees which include the Cherry Festival, the Kite Festival and the various village progress associations, additional committees will be established including a Health Advisory Committee, a Sports Advisory Committee and a Weeds Management Committee,” he said.
Mayor Ingram said in addition to the Section 355 Committees, Council resolved at the recent meeting to establish other additional internal and external committees including an external Aboriginal Advisory Group and an external Passenger Transport Working Group.
