It’s been almost 20 years since I’ve been up to the Showground when the Touch/Netball Carnival is on. I went last Friday and in one word, “Amazing!”

The Carnival has grown so much and the logistics associated with putting it on have grown proportionately.
All those people involved in this wonderful day, “Amazing!”
Julie Harton leads this team and Boorowa should rise as one to applaud Julie and her team’s efforts. Once again, “Amazing!”

Also at the Showground last Friday, the first sod was turned in the project that will ultimately establish the Showground as a multi-purpose show piece.
State Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward, Federal member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, Hilltops Mayor, Brian Ingram and Councillor Wendy Tuckerman were among the dignitaries, but Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was the absolute hit with the kids – looked like he knew how to use a shovel too.
The two storey amenity and function centre will be the first undertaking, with work starting soon, if not already.
Nice to see Alan Banks is the contracted builder.

I went to the Hilltops Council Strategic Plan Workshop Thursday of last week. About 25 people turned up to have their say in how Council’s plan to take us through to 2030 should shape up.
One very pleasing aspect was the attendance of quite a few young people who made very significant contribution to the workshop.
On the other hand, Wendy Tuckerman was the only councilor to attend. Where were the other ten? Is this indicative of where Boorowa sits in their scheme of things?
If their serious about working for Hilltops in its entirety, they should have been here.
There are workshops in the other centres and Council has organized to have a pop up stall outside IGA Wednesday November 1. Get along and put in your two bobs worth.

Higher School Certificate Exams are in full swing with year 12 students facing test culminating from 13 years of schooling.
Careers are to be considered, further education could be anticipated, but so much depends on those final results.
Elation or disappointment will decide if chosen career paths can be followed or new ones found. Basically, life is about not so much where you start, but where you finish.
We can’t foresee what is in our futures, but if we strive to improve the sky can be the limit. Maybe the young, or even older folks, can find some inspiration in these words from highly successful model, creator, and one of the most recognizable faces in the world, Miranda Kerr, “The truth of the matter is I wasn’t born a strong and confident woman. I became one through my own efforts to cultivate these attributes daily.”

Have we gone too far with technology? Simply walk around and see the number of people glued to their mobile phones, playing with some technological gadget, in some way embroiling themselves in the technological world.
Much is being said of late about falling literacy standards, the continual decline in people’s ability to converse, even fitness levels are under fire. Such is the impact technology is having on our everyday lives. Albert Einstein feared this day would come, saying:
“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”
