During the first half of the year, Rugby School students teamed up with students from Wee Jasper Public School to perform a scene from the Shakespearean play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
With lots of practice, encouragement and tutorage from Mr Craig Patterson (Wee Jasper School) we managed to learn our lines and perform the scene for many groups of people – the Rugby, Rye Park and Wee Jasper communities and finally our largest audience at the Binit Binit group of schools Education Week performance.
Education Week/Grandparents Day at Rye Park
The combined Rye Park and Rugby Grandparents and Open Day at Rye Park on August 4 was a fun day and showed off our talented students. They were involved in a Grandparents’ song, a dance and had the opportunity to show some of the great work they have been doing during the shared learning days on Thursdays. There was also an example of how technology can be used to connect people across great distances. The Education Week Award was given to Mieke Boole.
District Athletics
Mieke, Tauren and Darius were all selected for the District Athletics Carnival in various events. They attended this carnival on August 11 and tried their best in all events for which they had been selected, unfortunately none were chosen to represent Cowra District at the Regional Athletics Carnival.
Robotics Day
Rugby School hosted a Robotics Day on August 31. Rye Park and Rugby students joined together to learn lots of new skills. Students learnt to code different types of robots: Wedo robots, Sphero Robots and Lego EV3 robots.
The Gismo and Gadget people also showed them how to fly drones and the correct way to play computer games.
Altogether it was a fantastic day and the teachers commented on how involved every student was in listening and learning about this new technology.
NAIDOC Day at Yass High
On September 15, Rugby Public School students came together with their teachers and students from many other schools in the area to participate in activities surrounding NAIDOC Day.
There was a fantastic opening ceremony to show the importance of it to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A welcome to country and the National Anthem was performed as well as a smoking ceremony and dance performances.
After this many information stalls, workshops and activities were set up that the students could gain information or try some traditional indigenous foods and meats. The Johnny cakes were a real hit!
Sydney Excursion
To round out the term we have once again joined with Wee Jasper to enter a team into the NSW Public Schools Sports Association Touch Football competition and have managed to make our way to the State knockout. Touch Football games were played on September 21 along with a Sydney excursion involving trips to Featherdale Wildlife Park, Rock Climbing, Darling Harbour, Urban Jungle and swimming. It was an action packed three days and we were ready for a holiday at the end of it.
