Now into its fifth year the Mercy Walk for Women is “growing legs”, according to organiser Teena McGrath.
“We have seen a steady increase in the number of women who take part,” she said.
“It’s an opportunity for women and young girls to come together walking and talking while raising much needed funds for Karinya House refuge for homeless mothers and babies.”
The 23 kilometre walk will again start at the intersection of The Campbellfield’s Lane, Cunningah Rd and the Galong Rd. We will stop for morning tea which is provided, there will be support vehicles, porta loos along the way.
On arrival at St Clements Monastery there will be champagne and nibbles and transport by bus back to Boorowa if required.
Walkers are able to hop on and off the bus as often as needed, you can involve your friends and enter a team. If you are unable to participate physically you can sponsor a walker or you can make a donation.
All women and young girls are encouraged to participate in some capacity. It is truly a wonderful day enjoyed by many.
Teena is very humbled by the tremendous support she receives from the Boorowa community for this socially important event. Mike Ward from The Top Pub, Gail Taylor transport, The Hilltops Council, Oz Harvest and of course the Karinya House team. Along with the huge participation from local women and the very kind donations they source from sponsorship.
Mercy Walk for Women encourages the awareness of the many issues faced by women and young girls locally and globally in regards to Domestic violence, gender inequality, education, poverty, homelessness and displacement.
We are promoting the respect for women by walking together as one.
