Garage Sale Trail, the multi-award-winning sustainability and community campaign powered by local councils is back again as a weekend long event on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, 2017.
Households, community groups, charities, local businesses and schools in the Hilltops region are set to join an estimated 350,000+ Australians as a part of the seventh annual national Garage Sale Trail.
Aimed at bringing communities together and promoting reuse Garage Sale Trail is powered by over 150 local councils and in 2017 has set two major national goals:
- To see two million items listed for reuse on one big weekend of garage sales across the country
- And enable 120,000 new neighbourly connections Australia-wide over the weekend long event
General Manager Anthony McMahon has welcomed the initiative to the Hilltops and the unique opportunity it presents our communities to promote reuse in a fun and creative way.
“Hilltops Council is proud to be actively involved in bringing this national initiative to our residents. Garage Sale Trail helps people to think about the way in which we can be proactive and innovative in the way we take responsibility for the waste we create. Items that are reused won’t end up in council collections or in a landfill which is the most positive outcome for our environment,” Mr McMahon said.
The initiative is run by Australian not-for-profit Garage Sale Trail Foundation.
The event exists to create positive social and environmental change in communities across Australia.
This initiative is good for the planet and good for the community too!
