The creation of the new ‘Hilltops Education and Community Precinct’ is well under way with Council meeting with community representatives on Monday to discuss the next steps of the project.
The new ‘Hilltops Education and Community Precinct’ includes the construction of a new Library and University Centre, adjacent to the Young Community Arts Centre.
In addition to the new Library and University Centre, Council Administrator Wendy Tuckerman said plans are in place to refurbish the Young Community Arts Centre.
“This particular location means the new Library and University Centre is ideally situated nearby to local high schools as well as the new-look TAFE campus, which together, will create an exciting new learning ‘zone’ for students – both school-age and post school-age – in the region,” she said.
“Importantly, this location also means the Library and University Centre is co-located with other community facilities such as the Lambing Flat Folk Museum,” she said.
Mrs Tuckerman said Council is committed to preserving and cultivating existing and valuable community assets within innovative plans for the future.
General Manager Anthony McMahon said Council is now currently preparing to engage an architect to develop detailed plans for the site.
“We will be looking to build the new Library and University Centre on the northern side of the Young Community Arts Centre, with the new and existing buildings to be integrated through a shared courtyard,” he said.
“It is exciting to now be nearing the stage where we can deliver on some exciting major strategic projects that will benefit the entire Hilltops community both now and into the future.”
