Hop bush, red stem wattles, yellow flowering correas and dusky bell correas were deeply planted and watered in.
This range of plants will provide habitat and food for birds in future years and is the start of a diverse native garden.
Kath McGuirk, Chair of Boorowa Community Landcare worked with Links to Learning teacher Deb Wood to remove weeds and supervise changes to the watering system.
Boorowa Community Landcare wishes to work with local schools and community groups in the region who wish to introduce native plants into their gardens.
This commitment is part of our Environmental Trust grant Creating Connections as the planting of specific native plants detailed by Greening Australia and Damon Oliver of NSW Environment and Heritage can provide a future food highways for our local and migrating woodland birds.
Boorowa Community Landcare has a Planting Guide for native birds plus a listing of plants which provide diverse food sources for our local woodland birds.
Your local Landcare group is also holding an art competition for Primary and Secondary students plus an open category where locals are invited to create either a drawing, electronic logo, model or handmade creation which reflects the groups Environmental Trust grant theme: “Creating land and water connections for Superb Parrots and Pygmy Perch”.
Information on these Landcare resources can be sourced from our Landcare co-ordinator Linda Cavanagh at the Local Land Services at Boorowa Council or at boorowa@landcare.net
