Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram said the funding was recently secured by Council, who then allocated various grants to local priority projects.
“We have such a rich history here in the Hilltops Region and this funding is designed to help owners and communities care for our heritage, and ensure that future generations have that all-important connection to the past,” Mayor Ingram said.
“$36,000 all-up will be invested throughout the region as Council actively engages with the community to support them in managing and promoting heritage places within Hilltops,” he said.
Mayor Ingram said as part of Council’s ongoing strategy to conserve and manage heritage assets throughout the region, Councillors resolved at last week’s Ordinary Meeting to lobby the State Government for further funding to carry out significant heritage planning studies.
“Council will be lodging a bid for $100,000 in funding to carry out heritage studies, including an Aboriginal heritage study and a heritage main street study,” Mayor Ingram said.
“These studies are vital to the long-term management of our valuable heritage assets as they allow us to identify and appropriately record the cultural heritage of the Hilltops Region, to help to ensure the community understands and cares for its heritage,” he said.
