The Gators were successful by fifteen runs whilst the Crocs had to settle for a draw after the turf wicket was deemed unplayable due to rain late last week.
It was the first senior game on the new synthetic wicket at the recreation ground and from all reports, the pitch is a success.
It’s been a long time coming and along with other ground improvements and infrastructure, the Boorowa ground is becoming one of the best cricket venues around the area.
The Gators won the toss and elected to bat against a Taipans attack that looked a little light on in the pace department but were more reliant on a slow bowling attack.
Brendon Shean had the honour of facing the first ball on the new pitch but just a few balls later he also had the honour of the first duck as the Gators were suddenly in trouble at 1/0.
New club recruit Jye Paterson and skipper Chris McIntosh then steadied the ship with a partnership of 40 for the second wicket before Chris departed in the fourteenth over.
Jye began to pick up run rate and compiled a well-made 66 before he was caught leaving the Gators teetering at 5/98 in the 25th over.
The wickets were regular and at 8/135 in the 32nd over it looked as though 150 was almost out of reach.
With more comebacks than John Farnham, Stuart Gay strode to the crease and began to turn the game back in the Gators favour.
Along with Like Syrec and Mitch Clarke, Gayzer put on a healthy 50 runs in the last eight overs for the Crocs to reach 9/185.
Stuart finished on a quick fire 44 not out, however his innings may have come at a cost as the veteran limped from the field with “Old Man’s” calf.
Mitch Clarke made a quick fire 12 not out and Luke Syrec 10.
It wasn’t a bad total on a slowish wicket and outfield which was defendable.
In reply, the Taipans were in cruise mode for the first 26 overs reaching 1/116 thanks largely to the experienced Robbie Field who made 80.
However once Andrew Burns knocked over his castle, the Taipans brittle middle order was exposed and the Boorowa attack began to get on top.
As the run rate required increased the wickets began to tumble, it became a bridge to far for the Taipans who finished their allotted over on 8/170.
The wicket takers for Boorowa were Mitch Clarke with 2/23, Andrew Burns 1/13, Cameron Johnston 1/27, Chris McIntosh 2/5, Jye Paterson 1/5 and Shane Cross 1/28.
This week will see a general bye for both teams before play resumes the following Saturday.
