A dedicated group of enthusiastic land managers had the pleasure of meeting and listening to Colin Seis talk about the benefits of ‘Pasture Cropping’, Grazing and Weed Management.

With dry land salinity, soil acidification and loss of soil carbon having increasing impacts on the productivity and profitability of farming enterprises.

‘Pasture Cropping’ is providing an option for addressing these issues.

‘Pasture Cropping’ being  an innovative land management technique that enables annual crops to be grown into dormant perennial pastures, or pastures whose growth has been temporarily been suppressed by grazing and /or the use of herbicides.

The knowledge and techniques that have been learned by Col, since he and Daryl Cluff pioneered ‘Pasture Cropping’ in 1993 were well received by those present.

After being totally involved in the presentation, we went for a Paddock Walk to investigate options that would be available in a particular paddock situation.

Next event for Boorowa Landcare Group is the launch of BCLG’s new Environmental Trust Grant, with a Bird Walk with Nicky Taws from Greening Australia at Geoff & Sharman Darnell’s property ‘Murloona’ on the Rye Park Rd on Saturday 4th November.

Boorowa Community Landcare Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 9 at the Boorowa Ex-Services club starting at 6.00pm.

Dinner will be served at 7.00pm with guest speaker Daniel Florance speaking about reptiles after dinner.

Daniel is Senior Research Officer for the Conservation and Landscape Ecology Group, Fenner School of Environment and Society, The Australian National University and has been running monitoring programmes across South East Australia.
