Now in it’s 21st year, Irish Woolfest will feature a huge line up of entertainment and activities for the whole family to enjoy, with thousands expected to make the trip to Boorowa for the event.
The festivities begin with official opening of the St John’s Art Show on Friday, September 29 at the Court House.
The weekend kicks off with the Woolfest Bowling Tournament at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club at 9am on Saturday, September 30 followed by the always popular Quick Shear competition and the Boorowa Rodeo Stampede at 4pm.
Boorowa boasts some of the fastest shearers in the region and Quick Shear is an opportunity for them to show off their skills for prizes.
Saturday evening will feature the Rovers Reunion at the Ex-Services Club and for all you foodies out there, Boorowa’s Long Lazy Dinner, which features local produce within 100 miles, will be on at the Recreation Club from 7:30pm onwards.
Sunday is when the fun begins with plenty of live music, performances and the Running of the Sheep and Street Parade.
From 9am onwards, there will be performances from Josie Laver, The Barleyshakes, Lugh Damen, the Hawkesbury Working Dog demos, Canberra Celtic Pipe Band and dancers and there will be the Ecumenical Blessing of the Fleece.
At 12 noon, Marsden Street will be shut down for the Running of the Sheep, followed by the street parade with wonderful floats and plenty of community spirit.
The Beanie, Beret and Tea Cosy Competition will be awarded at 2:20pm, followed by other awards for the parade and window decorations at 2:25pm and the Off the Sheeps Back Fashion Parade at 2:30pm.
There will also be whipcrackers, displays, arts and crafts and amusements throughout the day.
