Among the 18, three former Boorowa Councillors - Wendy Tuckerman (who is representing Godfreys Creek), former Boorowa deputy mayor Chris Corcoran and former councillor Jack Ryan – will be standing as a group.
Mr Corcoran said he plans to stand for Hilltops.
“Technically I’m not focusing on Boorowa, I’m standing as a candidate for Hilltops,” Mr Corcoran said.
“I’m very keen on the idea of trying to make this a strong, regional council that benefits all the three towns and the villages so I’m looking at it from that angle.”
Mr Corcoran said his experience in local government made him want to run for Hilltops Council.
“The main reason I’m standing is because I’ve had 16 years experience in local government and a lot more years’ experience in hospital organisations and things so I want to continue to utilise that experience I have.”
Five candidates from Young have elected to stand, including Brian Ingram, John Walker, Greg Armstrong, Joe Kinsela and Margaret Roles.
John Horton and Matthew Stadtmiller from Harden have also run for council, along with Chris Manchester of Murrumburrah.
The villages around the Hilltops LGA also have strong representation with Tony Flanery (Barwang), Rita O’Connor (Nubba), Tricia Mack (Murringo) Tony Wallace (Murringo), Bruce Smith (Berthong), Wes Leseberg (Jugiong) and Peter Holding (Cunningar) standing for election.
Mrs Mack from Murringo said she was running for Hilltops Council to support the local communities, especially villages like her own, with their initiatives and community groups.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work with the residents of the Hilltops and represent them to the best of my ability,” she said.
Hilltops returning officer Peter Seymour confirmed a valid election would be held on September 9 after a flurry of nominations came in last Wednesday.
