General Manager Anthony McMahon said the Youth Initiatives Committee was set-up last year to ensure the needs of younger people are taken into account by Council.
“Here at Council we’re mindful of making sure that the interests of all age groups are fully considered and reflected in the work we undertake on behalf of the community,” Mr McMahon said.
“So to ensure the viewpoints and concerns of young adults – namely those who are in their teens through to their 20s – are fully understood, the Youth Initiatives Committee was set up to channel this valuable information through to Council.
“This committee is in addition to the Youth Council which is also a vital conduit between Council and young people in our community,” he said.
Mr McMahon said anyone interested in putting their hand up to join those already on the working group, is invited to register their interest.
“Obviously our young adults are best positioned to speak about issues important to them, but equally, members of the community who engage with this age group on a regular basis – perhaps through their work in a local organisation or as a service provider – have a unique insight into the facilities and services needed to best meet the expectations of this demographic,” Mr McMahon said.
“This is about keeping all residents – particularly our youth – engaged in what we’re doing here at Council; it’s an exciting time for the region and as Hilltops Council drafts and implements plans for the future, it’s vital we collaborate with – and incorporate the ideas of – those who have a stake in that future,” he said.
Those who are interested in taking part can find a nomination form on Council’s website or alternatively learn more about the Youth Initiatives Committee by contacting Melanie Ford by emailing melanie.ford@hilltops.nsw.gov.au or phoning 0429 196579 with nominations closing at noon on Friday 21 July 2017.
