I’m extremely proud to say that thanks to the combined efforts of council staff and the community, the $14 million grant allocated to our region under this fund will be shared among 23 worthy recipients throughout the Hilltops area.
The breadth of these projects is certainly far-reaching and the benefits should not be underestimated.
This funding is a big opportunity for us to improve the infrastructure, facilities and services available to our local residents both now and for generations to come.
I’d like to personally thank all those residents who provided feedback, either directly at one of our forums or pop-up stands, or via a written submission; I can assure you, each and every contribution was carefully considered by the Stronger Communities Assessment Panel.
The final list of funding recipients was unanimously signed-off by the Panel, following a review of all submissions, including input from each Local Representative Committee (LRC).
The panel made some suggestions, which were incorporated into the final list, before it was endorsed during last week’s council meeting.
Council staff are now getting on with the job of delivering projects as soon as possible, to ensure the benefits are felt across the entire region.
Another measure to come out of the recent council meeting was the introduction of a waste voucher scheme.
Under the scheme, each Hilltops household will receive two vouchers making them eligible to dispose of certain types of waste for free.
The scheme has been introduced in response to feedback from the community. Unlike previous ‘kerbside’ collections or tip ‘drop-off’ days, the voucher scheme is available for all properties, ensuring everyone has equal access to the program regardless of their location, and without being tied to specific ‘drop-off’ days.
Keep a look out in the mail in September for your vouchers; just in time for Spring!
