David is highly regarded as an early adopter of Natural Resource Management practices.
A well-known and respected community member, David has managed his home property ‘Allendale’ since 1971.
At the very core of David’s approach has been the quest for equilibrium between long term profitability and healthy soils, catchment and landscape.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Boorowa Landcare Group in 1989, who applied for valuable funding which was used to map and monitor salinity, set up trial sites, education and ‘on ground’ works on properties around Boorowa.
This early work identified degraded landscapes, planned for their rehabilitation and was the catalyst for the formation of many more catchment based landcare groups around the Boorowa district.
David has been long term member of the Boorowa Regional Catchment Committee and served an eight year term as a Board Member of the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority.
At the very core of David’s approach has been the quest for equilibrium between long term profitability and healthy soils, catchment and landscape. He was instrumental in the formation of the Boorowa Landcare Group.
- Linda Cavanagh
He is currently a committee member of ‘Carbon Farmers of Australia’ and a member of the ‘Soils for Life’ board.
David writes a regular blog in support of regenerative landscape management as a coordinating member of the ‘Alliance for Regenerative Landscapes and Social Health’ (ARLASH).
Brave the winter chill and join BCLG to hear David talk about his journey through landcare and land management, on Thursday, July 20, 6pm at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club. All are welcome, the event is free to BCLG members, or $10 per person (includes individual membership for 2017.)
