Listening to a current affair report last week, I heard almost word for word a piece I had written to include in last week’s column: “While on tribunals, our judiciary needs to have a good look at itself. How many more Tori Johnsons, Brett Fortes or Jill Meaghers are going to be killed by lowlife out on bail or, amazingly out and free.”
Can you believe, a Mental Health Review Tribunal let a killer, who stabbed his father and sister to death, have day release despite being recognized as ‘an ongoing risk to the public’.
Every week brings us another case of judicial madness and further evidence of the need to get this lowlife out of Australia.
Murderer Yacqub Khayre is another case in point – ice addict, criminal of long standing, threatening terrorist and more. A chillingly similar story to Man Monis. Neither should have been allowed to stay in Australia, both received the ultimate justice, but sadly, not before innocent people died.
One must hope the remedial wheels of reform may now be put into motion before more innocent people lose their lives. We need national security, immigration agencies and a judiciary we have faith in.

Hold on. What do we really want? Things aren’t looking so good. Poor roads, inadequate transport systems, low standards in our educational outcomes, health system is a worry, welfare is rorted, economy crashing, debt increasing.
National security, immigration and judiciary aren’t our only concerns. How long would a CEO keep his job if he ran a company like our country is being run?
Tomorrow I’m going to wake and say, “Once upon a time there was a country that was affluent, progressive and well governed where……..” This fairytale, unfortunately, I can’t see having a happy ending.

Another snippet of history. In olden times lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Some would take them for dead and prepare them for burial, laying them out on the kitchen table for a couple of days. The family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up – hence the custom of ‘Holding a Wake’.

English politics is facing quite an upheaval. Theresa May called an early election aiming to increase her majority. The majority is now a deficit and England is left with a hung parliament. Harold Wilson’s saying, “A week is a long time in politics” should resonate with PM May, but how many national leaders have disregarded history to their detriment. Consider:
‘Those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” (George Santayana)
