Yes, these are some of the excuses that were used to get out of the annual bus trip to Jindabyne!
However, this didn’t stop the Goldies mustering up 15 players to field a team.
Brothers, brothers’ brothers, brothers’ friends’ brothers were called and asked to play.
Hats off to Brad Rose and Marty Corcoran for their big recruitment spree during the week to get a team together.
Sadly the Goldies did go down to the Jindabyne Bush Pigs 56 – 21 however this score line is not reflective of how close the game was.
The Bush Pigs managed to get a few break away tries in the last ten minutes to make it look like a mauling but it wasn’t.
Believe me.
The Goldies started off strongly lead up front by Russell Gorham who decided to have a run at number eight.
Safe to say he hasn’t lost his pace and was as quick as a helicopter around the pitch, sweeping up all the loose ball and presenting it well for Wal to feed the backline.
One thing that is becoming very evident this year is that the Goldies have a bloody strong scrum which is probably due to their size and experience.
The Bush Pigs simply could not handle Matty Corkhill, Mumbles and Tommy Kelly and then having Brad the Bus to come on for the last ten minutes to freshen things up is simply great.
The Goldies were at one point leading by 15 – 7 but then Justin Fleming did a round house kick to his opposite number eights head and was sent to the bin for 10 minutes.
Very harsh Ref… While Flemo was sitting in the bin having a smoke the Bush Pigs managed to score two more tries and were now leading to 21 – 15….
He came back on early in the second half and made absolutely no difference what’s so ever, in fact he got minced in a tackle by the small Pig and is still walking sideways.
The second ever prop in the Goldies history to play in the backs after Adam Mocka-eat-a-dim-sim-or-two, Dancer McGrath was simply breathtaking on the wing.
His pace, agility, sweet touches made the difference.
However, he did have everyone confused after the game when he swore black and blue that he scored 56 points.
We are all baffled.
Jack Ryan at full back was put under serious pressure all day with some really messy kicks to clean up.
However with his low centre of gravity and amazing skill in the air he had an outstanding afternoon.
This week’s honourable mention goes to Nick Ryan.
With numbers down and Nick saying he was home for the weekend and keen for a few tries everyone was delighted.
However, when he found out that the game was in Jindabyne he suddenly remembered that he had to “help” his girlfriend with a garage sale on Sunday!
Nice one Nick.
All in all it was a tough day on the paddock for the Goldies after a great win against Crookwell in Crookwell last week.
Did you hear about that one?
Bloody beat them with a kick after the bell.
Next week we have a home game against Taralga.
Make sure you get up and cheer on the boys…
Kick off is at 2pm.
It will be a great game.
Also after the game Coach Marty Corcoran will be announcing the big signing he has nearly managed to get for next year.
Finally finally, I just want to point out I was not at the game.
All I know is that the Goldies lost 56 – 21.
Points went to:
One point to Brock Ritchie, two points to Jye Paterson, three points to Dougal Kelly and players player.
