In the first semi-final Des Grimson played Glen Klose over 33 very close ends. At the 6th and the 9th scores were even. Then Glen pushed ahead and on the 29th end, he was ahead by one shot 25-24. Glen scored four to surge into the lead 29-24. Des came back with a single but Glen scored two to run out the winner 31-26.
In the other semi John Dymock played Gerard Dunn over 30 ends. At the 10th end Gerard was ahead 12-6. John then piled on eight shots over the next three ends to lead 14-12. He was never headed for the rest of the game to eventually run out winner 31-19.
Then the big one between Glen and John. John came out firing and was ahead 6-1 after five ends. Scores were 12-11 to John on the 14th end. Scores were 14-all on the 17th end and 15-all on the 19th. John added seven shots over the next three ends to lead 21-15. Glen was stuck on 17 for the next seven ends and John scored eight shots in that period to lead 29-17. Glen added two on the 30th but lost two on the next end to allow John to run out the winner 31-19.
In Thursday’s social bowls, clear winner was Don Hansen on 27 followed by Richard Manning and Graham Jenkins on 23. There was a three way tie for third between Nev Thurtell, Garry Hollier and Monica Kelly all on 22 points.
